Amy, It is late, so I am going to be outta here. Please do feel free to leave any additional comments on anything that I have said, since I will check again tomorrow. As a parting shot, may I offer the thought that you should engage less in discussions of this subject and more in discussions of foreign policy, taxes, budgets, etc. etc., where I am sure that you would have at least as much to contribute as on the issue here. There may be more to be gained for the common cause on other battlefields than on this one. In the meantime, if you have the time, find and read Edmund Burke's "Reflections on the Revolution in France" and James Burnham's "Suicide of the West." You will enjoy both, I suspect.

One significant development in the recent election was votes in four states approving same sex marriage initiatives. Until now, all previous state referenda to approve same sex marriage – 32 of them - failed.

The Wall Street Journal editorial page – a place where conservatives usually turn for intellectual capital – saw this as cause for celebration.

According to the Journal, marriage definition should come from voters, not from court orders. Americans, they argue, have “shown themselves more than capable of changing their views on gay marriage the democratic way.”
