The folly of the proposal emerges clearly enough from the suggestion that we ought to entrust our security to an international inspection regime and that too many U.S. nuclear weapons increase the risk of proliferation and terrorism. By the way, let no one suggest that Hagel is merely following in Reagan's footsteps in hoping for a denuclearized world. Even if Reagan talked that way, he had too much sense to act that way. In the case of Obama's administration, there is less room to expect that kind of common sense.

The bigger the club you can swing, the less you have to swing it. These efforts are no different than those of the left to disarm law abiding citizens.

Former Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel’s nomination to be Secretary of Defense should be withdrawn now. He delivered what may be the worst performance at a confirmation hearing ever given. He was described as “confused,” “befuddled,” and “self contradicting.” One of Mr. Hagel’s own backers deplored the lack of “charisma” the nominee showed during the hearings.
