Trusting Republicans on national security is a mistake. Don't forget that in the 1930's naval experts of the Republican sort believed that battleships were the way to go up until that fateful 'Day of Infamy.' Republicans viewed the building of aircraft carriers as liberal, socialistic, communistic and just too much change. Their reasoning, sound to them at the time, was "the ships with the biggest guns on them have won the naval battles for over the past one thousand years, why change?"
