And another thing. When Jorge Bergolio was Archbishop of Buenos Aries he called the welfare state institutionalized poverty.

Walter and the rest of the "Econonomists" have seriously misinterpreted the Pope's Encyclical. I'm really not sure they even read Evangelii Gaudium. Nowhere in the Encyclical is the word Capitalism used. What the Pope criticizes is "unfettered consumerism". The Pope points out our zeal for always having to have the "new thing" instead about thinking about how we can use our resources to help the poor is the problem. The Pope does say seem to say there is no evidence that "trickle down economics" has ever proven to work but it's a mior part of his remarks. Remember this is a document that was written Latin, translated into Italian and Spanish, and then to English, so the jury is still out on exactly what he said. When the dust clears I'm sure the "condemnation of Capitalism" will be debunked. Also this is a Pastoral Encyclical and the Pope is encouraging the Catholic Clericals to become more involved with the laity and to put aside doctrinaire approaches in favor of a more tolerant, loving approach to those who are not in lock step with some of the Church's teaching. Out of some 84 pages only a little over one are devoted to "economics". So chill everyone and take the Encyclical for what it is.
We still have to give pregnant women a viable prenatal option. When women are asked why they had an abortion the response is typically " I didn't think I had a choice". Ironic??

The Fatal Conceit of Obamacare

While many may argue over the ultimate effect of the Affordable Care Act a.k.a Obamacare, what cannot be argued is that this President and his Administration deeply misled the American people to sell the legislation. When something is based on a lie it comes from a place of undeniable evil.

Ah--we don't need the vitriol and name calling. That's for liberals. Let's keep with the facts. Ms. O'Brien has written a thoughtful, well researched article that lays the case out cogently. Let's not diminish that.
And "the vast left wing conspiracy" includes dissident Catholics. If you've seen the "We are the Catholic People" ad all the groups endorsing it are either dissident, breakaway or Apostate Catholic groups. They are not Catholic and have been coalesced to split the Catholic vote because the President is in trouble with Catholics over the birth control issue and mostly his support of abortion. Their tentacles are everywhere.
