I have worked since I was 17 years old, so please do not include me in the group "who never struck a lick in their life." My son, who is 30 yrs. old is a fireman in a large Texas city. I pay $380 a month for health insurance. He pays $4.95 a paycheck for his. Same HMO, relatively same benefits. I will have to work until I am 65 to retire with a compay pension and Medicare, working 37 years for the same company. He will be able to retire after 20 years with the same medical insurance coverage, when he is 44 years old.

He and his wife and 2 children live in a house which is less than 2 years old. My house was built in 1974. He wouldn't know a food stamp if it bit him in the butt. Meanwhile, I have to debate how many meals this week will be vegetarian, because the cost of meat is so high. Yes, he does have an important job, one that is dangerous, and I sit behind a desk. But I am glad that I do not live in the city where he works, because I would truly resent the fact that I pay his salary and fund his retirement.

Forward! Stockton, California; move on forward, right to bankruptcy.

Can you take the Democrats with you? Oh, that's right: They are already there.

Stockton, California will seek bankruptcy protection after negotiations with unions over benefits and workers' pay failed to avert insolvency by the city. But because of laws passed by California liberals aimed at entitling government union workers to inflated pay and benefits under most circumstances, look for more cities in California to seek the same remedy.

If you weren’t horrified by the case made in Madison, Wisconsin over union wages and benefits causing massive state and local budget...
