you are mistaken.. the cREATOR of the work, that is, the person holding the camera and making it say CLICK, owns the rights UNTIL signed off to someone else in writing. Most photographers do not do this, they retain the rights to their own images. The client only owns the actual prints or other image format, with NO RIGHTS to reproduce or resell those images. The creator OWNS the image... and sells ONE COPY ONLY to the client. Clients never "own" the right to the image. I was in the business for many years, and that's how it works, digital age changes nothing except the details.

My fiancée has a small photography business, and she wants to form a partnership with a college student who is majoring in business. I think this is a bad plan, but I’m pretty sure she’s not going to listen to me. What do you think about the idea?

Dear Bruce,

A partnership is always a bad idea. There’s absolutely no upside for her, and if you feel there’s nothing you can do to keep her from making such a ridiculously bad mistake, then you guys are going to have issues in your marriage, too. It sounds like...
