How can people get exemptions from a law? Just ask Congress. These people have exempted theimselves from Obamacare, from insider trading, from sexual harrassment laws and others. They have exempted illegal aliens from deportation. They have exempted themselves from paying income taxes -- until they are discovered, at which time they apologize for their "forgetfulness".
