Our allies should respect us and our enemies should fear us.
That is a short term solution to a long term problem.
The Obama administration has been clear. They plan to "talk". It hasn't worked but to say they have no plan is not accurate. They have an unworkable plan. The Ron Paul types would like us to pull out. You addressed that very well. If talking and running are not acceptable, what is? Bush had us take the war to a place where we had the advantage - Iraq. The radicals were drawn like a moth to a flame. The plan was not sustainable due to media pressure and war fatigue but it had some success. If I understand the situation middle east types respect power. They will side with the strong horse. So if I may, what you are really saying is that there is no easy solution and in fact there is no permanent solution. Agreed.

The conventions are scripted to avoid the "gotcha" and the media complain?
Comparing drugs to alcohol is an unfair comparison. I hear this all the time. For one, alcohol has a long history so we already know the consequences. We have no idea what would happen were drugs legalized. Neither will crime decrease if drugs are legalized. Therefore it isn't a war on people. Criminals will find new ways to make money like selling drugs to children who will not be able to purchase them legally. The notion that criminals will become law-abiding citizens because drugs are legalized is a very optimistic assessment. If money were free would crime end? It would actually increase crime. Increasing welfare has not decreased crime but rather created a new dependent class which is exactly what would happen if drugs were legalized.
I would be interested in reading comments on topic. How about taking your pet topics to an area where it might be appreciated? I have not yet rejected the idea of a woman's ability to reject a pregnancy in some situations. I will save my judgment for a few weeks when the actual facts are known. We accept that our bodies reject infections, foreign objects etc. because we are familiar with the concept. Akin is either right or wrong. The reaction seems to be out of proportion to the incident. I would look for something deeper driving this storm.

The overblown reaction was a greater distraction than Akin's comments. What constitutes an actual rape is not easily defined since feminists have come up with their own definitions. Whether a woman has a natural defense against pregnancy in the case of rape is simply a question of science. he is correct or he isn't. I have found physicians online who have made similar statements. I suspect that the answer will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.
Far be it for me to side with Obama but we must also weigh which is the greater threat; Al Qaeda or Iran. Syria is Iran's most significant Arab supporter. The undoing of that relationship would have its advantages as well.
Palin moved the needle.

I don't understand why we think that Latinos have to have a Latino candidate when we have no such standard for ourselves? (I am a white male conservative) Isn't this a form of racism that assumes that white conservatives are going to vote for the best candidate regardless of race, sex, religion etc. but Latinos will not? The best plan would be to make them kindred spirits instead of pandering to more of the same stuff the left has relied on. Perhaps this is not the pragmatic approach but "winning" only to lose has lost its appeal for me. I am a big fan I have no agenda to push.

The 500 billion will be wasted on some new social program (or redistributed to some corporation that will then contribute to a campaign) so if I had to choose I would prefer an air base in Greenland which may not do anything (I don't know that) over increasing our social programs that have done tremendous harm to the country, the choice is an easy one. The US military is the greatest government force for good in the world at the present time. I defy you to name another. We all agree it is not the UN.
