A guy I worked with years ago was born and raised in Zimbabwe and came to America to become a citizen of this country. When he tried to call himself an African-American he was quickly corrected by a government official. You see he was "white" and therefore could not be called an African-American. Perhaps I should still call myself a Franco-American even though my ancestors came here a century and a half ago. It is nice to celebrate the various cultures that came to America but America is more an ideal than it is geography. America can be reproduce anywhere where liberty and free market capitalism exists.
