McCarthy, as my dad would say, was in the right church but the wrong pew. His point was that you have the right idea but going about it the wrong way. That was McCarthy's undoing.

I think that's what happened, I remember seeing him in the old videos from the hearings he held back in the '50s, and there was a movie or special with Peter Boyle as McCarthy. I always thought he was crazy or going overboard, but he was right ! !
