Not so fast! The Newton School Board is asking the taxpayers to pay more. Besides, this is like closing the barn door after the horses have fled. The school board members should be publicly apologizing, then resigning.

I think these School Board members are very wise. They know that you cannot keep a disturbed person from killing people. I salute them for their idea. I bet if needed that parents of the children would pay for the Guard. I know I would. Anything that would keep my child protected would be worth it to me.

This points out the inherent contradiction of public schooling, more accurately termed state-run propaganda camps.

In a free society, in which all schools would be privately owned, parents and school administrators would determine what the correct mode and level of defense should be. Most likely, they would opt for certifying teachers and administrators in armed defensive techniques, as the Israelis have done. Such an approach is low-cost and very effective.

But in a free society, there would be no need for public debate and a one-size-fits-all approach to the issue.
