An Open Letter to Mark Potok, Spokesman for the SPLC (Part II)

That offer is like a cannibal inviting you to a BBQ where you will be the main course! Oh, of course it is all done with “love” -- that just makes the meat more flavorful! Don’t you get it, Brown? You cannot seriously ask someone to meet with you to discuss how evil they are (according to you). It doesn’t matter how much of your “love” you want to spackle that with, to the person you are asking, it is an insane question at best, and incredibly insulting in general. Note: I am not defending SPLC here. I am pointing out the stupidity of Brown's column.

Why is it that people like Brown think they are THAT important, or Tony Perkins for that matter? Brown can be disingenuous, like making claims that publishers are afraid to publish his books because they speak 'the truth'. When in fact, no legitimate and credible publisher could claim a book is factual non fiction, when it's actually fiction. And even then, if the quality of information is unintelligent and without evidence, even mores the point. Perkins is a liar, he's hyperbolic and can't get past the same stock talking points, in other words inexpert and boring. The anti gay keep gay people and their advocates very busy, so there is little time to spend on word salad that can come from people like Brown.

Perhaps it has escaped your notice that it is the SPLC calling he and other Christians like him evil? Christian organizations are NOT calling gay people evil. They are saying that homosexual behavior is a sin in the sight of GOD. So, your analogy makes not one scintilla of sense.

I'm not sure most people will see the distinction. We think of murderers as evil, we think of rapists as evil. Was Hitler evil? Or was he just a nice guy who engaged in behavior that was "sin in the sight of GOD." I'm not saying your distinction is without merit, but I don't think I'm alone in thinking that murderers etc are themselves evil because of what they do.. So, when is the distinction valid, and when is it not?

Thomas... Not sure what "Sophostry much?" means in this context, so we'll skip that. To your other point, Brown is most certainly not calling the SPLC evil. How in the world did you come to that conclusion? He is saying they are in error in labeling his organization a hate group, and he would like to discuss with SPLC why they feel the group IS a hate group, so that the two sides can present their reasons for feeling as they do. Do you really believe that any time two groups disagree, they must therefore hate each other?

You claim that the FRC knowingly disseminates false and defamatory information about LGBT people. Why, then, have you refused to have a public dialog with FRC head Tony Perkins in order to demonstrate your points? What if there is support for the statements the FRC has made, or what if their statements have been taken out of context?

My attempts to engage in public dialog with the SPLC have also been met with deafening silence. What is it, sir, that you fear? Why are you so unwilling to bring the issues to light in the public square? To this...
