I am a fiscal con. The error you are making is this: The major issues affecting all of America today are the economy, jobs, education, taxes, national security and public sector unions. ALL of these can - and shuold - be dealt with via a limited government of enumerated, Constitutional powers, which is how the Republic was established. SoCons simply are Progs on the Right: They demand unlimited government, unconstrained by the Constitution, only in service of THEIR morality. Nothing in the Constitution discusses marriage, homosexuality or abortion. In our Constitutional government based on the Rule of Law and limited to the enumerated powers, SoCons are demanding limitless expansion of those powers to achive their moral demands.

Don't get me wrong. Not every conservative has a winning personality and not every liberal is a toothache in search of a mouth to inhabit. In fact, one of the single nicest people I know is a liberal (Hi, Julie Joyce!) Yet and still, it's not a reach to say that most liberals, especially the ones that are politically active, are just generally difficult to get along with.
