xj, Boys playing with "action figures" and girls playing with dolls (baby or Barbie) are TOTALLY different. Were you not a kid?! Read Christina Hoff Summers' book "Who Stole Feminism?" In it, she tells the results of a study by a toy company to see if there really was a gender difference in young children, and gave them equal toys. When the boys had the cool full-size playhouse set-up, complete with babies in buggies, the boys launched the buggies off the roof. (The girls predictably played House.) As a little girl, I played with G.I. Joes. Well, I borrowed my neighbor's so I could use him to marry my Barbie.

This past week an episode of Sesame Street set off a firestorm of debate over whether a boy muppet named Telly should be ashamed that his muppet friends caught him playing with dolls.

In one corner "traditionalists" who called out the episode as gender and sex confused. In the other "modern feminists" who were offended by almost everything the traditionalists said and believe.

In light of these op-eds and arguments I decided to do a bit of personal surveying for myself.
