Myer2: There is a reason for this so be careful when you try and cherry-pick states. Here are the facts according to the 2011 census: Massachusetts: White pop: 84.1% Black pop: 7.8% New York: White pop: 71.5% Black pop: 17.5% Mississippi: White pop: 60% Black pop: 37.3% Alabama: White pop: 70.1% Black pop: 26.5% Most gun violence committed in the US is by black on black crime and drug/gang related.

True actually. Stats are wonderful to finagle when trying to make a point like the non-profit you are quoting but Alaska had a grand total of 36 murders in 2011 and Wyoming only 9. Based on their population as a state that is not so bad. Chicago which has roughly the same pop as Wyoming had over 500 murders last year alone and it is one of those liberal "civilized" places you are so keen on. NYC which has more population than both those states had 4 times the murders. Another civilized no gun place.

Not true look at Montana, Alaska, Wyoming where the numbers of blacks is less than 5% but gun deaths still exceed that of civilized states. The real number is IQ and education Massachusetts-104, Mississippi 94 New York 100.7 Alabama 95.7,

Alaska 17.7 Black population 3.1? Montana 14.5 black population .05. Face it guns dont kill people idiots kill people (and themselves)

As Congress prepares to consider new gun control legislation, I stand firmly against any attempt to restrict the constitutional rights of responsible, law-abiding gun owners. As a concealed weapons permit holder, I value the freedom to exercise my Second Amendment right as protected by the Constitution and in accordance with gun laws designed to promote safe, responsible use. The right to bear arms is a unique and fundamental aspect of American liberty because, when exercised responsibly and in accordance with the laws in place, it makes our families and our property safer.
