ericynot, Afghanistan is a war zone where small arm only skirmishes are not the norm. Weapons such as IED's and high explosives with greater killing capacity are used. Also, many of our Soldier losses come from accidents such as crashes, (Air and Vehicle) whereas Chicago's numbers come from violence alone. Also, you neglect the fact that everyone in AF is armed (both sides) where no one in Chitcago is allowed to be so your population comparison is misguided.

Since NBC sportscaster Bob Costas went on his halftime anti-gun rant on Sunday using words written by Fox Sports Columnist Jason Whitlock, we’ve heard a lot from the media and from uniformed commentators about America’s “gun culture.” The fact is, America actually has two gun cultures and it is important to distinguish them from one another.
