Obama claims that all of our economic problems were caused by Bush. Bush ignored it. Result: most Americans believe that Bush caused our economic problems. See a pattern? Bush doesn't. Thank God Palin has more sense.

Political Historian asks why the Republicans did nothing about lynchings, etc. even though they controlled the government. They didn't always control the Government. Republican Presidents held office 1876 - 1884, 1888 - 1892, and 1896 - 1912. Democrats held office 1884 - 1888 and 1892 - 1896. However both parties were evenly matched most of the time. The most significant period from the point of view of civil rights was 1892 - 1894 when the Democrats gained complete control of the government. They used this power to repeal civil rights legislation and abolish civil rights agencies. This is when lynchings of blacks reached their peak. This is when Jim Crow was established. This is when black voters were disenfranchised en masse.

In 1876, the Nation had been through 16 years of bloody Civil War, followed by military occupation of the defeated Confederacy. The Nation was tired of the Civil War and wanted to bring the troops of the occupation army home. Both political parties were committed to ending Reconstruction. If PoliticalHistorian has a problem with that, then why does he only condemn one of them and give a complete pass to the other one.

PoliticalHistorian asks how many black Republicans, as opposed to black Democrats, are in Congress. Most black elected officials are Democrats; what else would you expect, considering that 90 - 95 % of black voters are Democrats? Some ignorant people claim that this proves that Republicans are anti-black, when actually it simply proves that blacks are anti-Republican. Lincoln dealt with a similar accusation: Southerners were claiming that the Republican Party was anti-South and cited the scarcity of Southern Republicans. But the Republican Party was not anti-South then and it is not anti-black today.

The U.S. Government had every right to declare the ceasefire null and void and resume the War, and I believe they should have done so. But instead the U.S. Government tried to persuade Hussein to comply with the conditions. He refused. In 2003, Bush finally did what should have been done 12 years earlier.

The first thing our forefathers did was establish "a standing military". the oldest parts of the U.S. Government are the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Marine Corps. In fact, they are actually older than the U.S. Constitution, having been established in the Revolutionary War. But of course Corbett hates everything else about America.

They supported the invasion of Iraq until the rising casualty lists made it politically vulnerable.Then they opposed it. They supported imprisoning terrorists at Guantanamo until they saw that it might be to their political advantage to oppose it. Then they opposed it, and Senator Obama promised to close it as soon as he became President. Until he became President. Then he became President and kept it open.
