Couple comments and a question.

I was pretty much a social zero in High School in the late 60's (grad71), was part of a rather intense Christian Organization (The Navigators) in college (Va Tech 75) and really only faced genuine sexual temptation in my 20s. Still I had a fair amount of opportunities with various honeys to get laid.
And I managed to make it through un-copulated.
Seems to me at least part of the problem here is a downright lack of imagination on the part of the lust driven. Point is, it IS DOable, you just gotta decide your cost benefit analysis well in advance.

MY background and training is literary analysis and THAT usage tells me Crowely was manipulating the events to get his own back.
There's not a single reason anywhere in the report or the incident that he couldn't have simply walked away from in SILENCE.
And he SHOULDN'T have stepped into the foyer--he should not be allowed by LAW to step into the man's house UNLESS the man says SPECIFICALLY "I grant you permission to enter the FOYER, officer." If Gates was holding it up at a distance Crowley could have asked, "could you hand it to me here, sir?"
