Why Mitt Lost and it Wasn’t Very Close

Ransom asks the wrong question. The question is not why Romney lost, but why Obozo won. How could an utter incompetent who wrecked the economy and has foreign policy in a shambles win re-election, even with close to $4 gas? It was clearly NOT "the economy, stupid." Ransom gets a third of the answer right: local organizing. The other two thirds are (1) cheating and (2) having a base that is willing to vote Dim no matter who the candidate is. Repubs aren't like that -- they have brains and, occasionally, morals. So they don't go gung-ho for a bozo candidate. Dims do. Dims get close to 100% of the blacks, gays, greenies... you get the picture.

Whale,

What's it like having a memory that doesn't go back more than four years? Obama did not wreck the economy. It was already a complete shambles when he took office. It did a total face-plant starting in August, 2008, three months before the election (and the writing had been on the wall for at least two years prior to that). Obama has not "fixed the economy", but it's better now than it was when he took office.

Bush's major contribution to the economy had been to cut taxes while starting two major wars, a mistake no previous President had ever made. His wars turned much of the world against us, and his budgetary blunders put us on the road to fiscal catastrophe. Obama, unfortunately, has not found a better road.

Republicans got 100% of the amnesia vote. 99% of the Etch a Sketch vote.

Memorandum to the GOP: When running an election campaign it is often valuable to select a nominee who represents the rank and file of the Party. This is how other Parties do it. Perhaps you might get on board.

Who?

Well let’s start with who not to select.

There was George H.W. Bush, who, while a nice, honorable public servant, won primarily because of the record Reagan established. He lost because the rest of us thought that when he mouthed the words “Read my lips, go to Texas,” he meant “Read my lips, no new taxes.”

There was Bob Dole,...
