Off topic. By your ID it looks like you are or were in the Navy. I've wanted to ask this question to someone like you. There is a new Navy ship called the SS Fort Worth. On the website it asked for citizens to donate and the money is for the crew for morale and activities. If you're in the Navy do you know from experience if funds such as these truly just go to the crew and not get siphoned off somewhere else? I'd like to donate but I don't want to be hoodwinked.

Let's say hypothetically this truly was about protecting children from school shootings. There is a list on infoplease of WORLDWIDE school shootings since 1996. Almost every one of them was done by a student in that school. (Newtown was a are exception) Perhaps a more effective deterrent would be to have actual trained psychologists in the schools who know what to look for and help these mentally disturbed kids before they're dangerous. Oh yea, that's too expensive and might actually help.....better to grab guns from everybody. BTW if every gun homicide in the US in 2011 was done by a different gun then 0.0037% of guns in the US was involved in a homicide. That means 99.9963% of them were not. (Homicide stats from CDC website)

On Google News there's a link to a Mother Jones article about gun control. They have a claim that had Jews been armed in Germany that it would have hastened there demise. And Russians having guns after Stalin took over would not have helped them. Commenters agree. I really dislike the name calling on these websites, but I have to say those are some real wackos over there.

I spend very little time on the computer because I have a job and flesh and blood friends. But when I am on here I love to read Townhall columns. When I'm done and browse the comments I always search for Allison. You have got to the the most hilarious thing on the internet ever. BTW -- on the day those 20 children were killed; how many were killed by abortion? No guns there.

I understand pols and columnists who continue to keep up the good fight. However many of my family and friends and "old timers" (meaning over 50) think that the balance has been reached. The population of the US is now officially more ticks than dog. We hope we're wrong, but we don't think we are. Very, very sad times.

FYI - personally when a disaster hits in the U.S. I give to the Southern Baptist Mission Disaster Relief (and I'm not a Baptist). They go everywhere the Red Cross goes but they don't hand out cash so they're not as easy a target for the scammers that plague the Red Cross.
