Self defense, either from a criminal or the government (same thing in my book) assumes the right to at least have the ability to meet force with equal force. That is possible against the average criminal, but is now impossible against an ever expanding, intrusive, powerful and thuggish government.
As far as I am concerned, a citizen should be allowed any weapon that the government possesses. And yes, I am aware of the full ramifications of that statement.

I would counter by asking you if I cut one of your hands, would that still not be the elimination of your right to your body? You still have a body...
