The Bogus Death Statistic That Won't Die

"Insurance groups suggest that 18,000 people die per year from preventable disease in a study written in 2007."

Where these people uninsured?

This doesn't prove that having insurance would have prevented the death. Preventable diseases include those that are brought about by people doing damage to themselves. Smokers that die of lung cancer are a good example. Would having insurance prevent them from dying? Probably not, especially if they continue the destructive behavior. Will government health care ban behavior that is deemed self destructive?

What about those that choose to not go into see the doctor for regular check ups? With or without insurance? How many of the preventable diseases would be caught if they...

Let's not forget that NBC has a show called "To Catch a Predator" which is an ongoing hidden camera investigation into computer sex predators--grown men, trolling the Web for sex with minors.

So, do these men need to sue NBC because they are the real victims??? Why are they only going after men? Bigots! ha.

I can't believe Sowell said the 14 letter word! The "R" word can never be spoken when referencing education or much of anything else.

then by reading your articles are we, the readers, "looking to so-called "famous" people for answers is the antithesis of education as a preparation for making up one's own mind as citizens of a democracy, rather than as followers of "leaders.""? How about buying and reading your books?

I find your articles/books and those by Walter Williams very educational.

I do agree that our educational system is failing us in every way. How is it even possible that a person can graduate high school without the skill to read? I guess as long as there feelings are intact I shouldn't worry.

Is it really "suspected"??? The guy did it and then engaged in a fire fight with authorities. It's not like they found him sitting on his couch watching Al Jazeera with no idea what had occurred. Let's not be PC about this...he killed those people, he did it because of ideology, and he can't have PTSD because he didn't go to combat. He is a muslim terrorist.

I agree with 2nd Fundamentalist the military (and I'll add licensed civilians if they have reason to be on base) should be allowed to carry on base. Let's not forget the Marines in Beruit who didn't have rounds for their weapons when they were attacked. Attacks can happen anywhere anytime and they should be allowed to be prepared. Happy birthday Marines!
