Madison Would Not Approve

I would respectfully suggest that the faculty in the "hard" sciences like engineering, biology, physics and mathematics be exempted from teaching that extra class.
I have heard about them on the news and read about them here and in other places. But I don't have specifics. As you noted in another post. There aren't enough hours in the day.
It still serves as a supplemental assistance to elderly Americans. But there are plenty of other giveaways to illegal aliens that should be addressed and eliminated.
I've been listening to all of the dire reports about how the various entitlements will be eating up such a large chunk of the federal budget. I know that high income wage earners put the most into the Social Security system. So on one level, it does seem fair that they should get more back out of it. But isn't it more important to save the system as a whole than to make sure that the people who put the most into it get the most back? Theoretically, those who have made more during their careers are the ones who will have had more money to cover their bills, pay off their mortgage and save for retirement. I know that's not always true and there are bad things that can happen like expensive illnesses. But I still think that it's...

Mubarak Steps Down

My sister lives in Ma'adi, a suburb of Cairo. Egyptians came up to Westerners two weeks ago, just as things were really getting bad, and say things like, "Don't worry. We protect you." One of my sister's friends, an American who teaches at a college in Cairo, went down to Tahrir Square on the day before the horses and camels came through and as welcomed as a supporter of the "Down with Mubarak" movement. Egypt is complicated.
While I'm generally not inclined to give President Obama the benefit of the doubt, the expression on his face during that hesitation suggested the person responsible for editing that quotation in that way was going to be toast.

And once marijuana is legal, we can start suing producers because it undoubtedly causes cancer. Another new revenue stream. Lovely.

The Don Imus comment on those talented and agressive women's basketball players was unacceptable. It's not just a matter of perception and hyper-sensitivity.

And unfortunately racism still does exist in America although it's not anything like it used to be. I've seen it. But Van Jones and that Cambridge professor can take a breath and get a grip.

The Lesson of the Snow Plow

Tall Chick Wrote: Feb 10, 2010 2:59 PM
The reason that there aren't enough plows and drivers to clean the streets around Virginia and Washington DC is that it didn't make economic sense to have the people and equipment in place on the off chance of such an unusual snow event.

I grew up in Duluth, Minnesota and attended Michigan Tech, a school in the Upper Peninsula. In those parts of the country, snow removal is an important part of local budgets. When I lived in Washington State, an Arctic Express left the roads clogged with snow. It took awhile for things to clear out, but so it goes with atypical events.

Weak Negotiating Fathers

My husband used to be able make the kids be quiet with a look and the snap of his fingers.

One day after my daughter babysat for a couple of kids who weren't well-disciplined, she came up to me and said, "Thank you for raising me right."
