When 'Spiritual Elevation' Is the Law

I lived in Germany for 2.5years in the early 1960's. It has been a tradition forever that all shops close on Saturday afternoon and remain closed until Monday morning. It was no inconvenience except when you forgot to buy your groceries for the weekend until it was too late. I grew up in the 40's and 50's and remember when businesses were closed here on Sunday. I don't think it would hurt our economy and it would certainly benefit familys if Sunday was a time when they could be together. I have never enjoyed working on Sunday, but at times in my life have been forced to do it in order to keep my job. I would readily accept return of the Blue Laws.
