Yes it is difficult for conservatives to "compete with Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc. who give away freebies" as the saying goes, but all freebies and gimmes come at someone elses expense. When we see legal immigrants come to this country and with hard work, cohesive families, and a can-do spirit become sucessful, and then see illegals, welfare whiners, and their ilk "expect everything and offer nothing except excuses, then we are in for a long struggle as a nation. Face it, their is no quick fix except maybe injections of common sense or a complete collapse of our financial system. Storm clouds on the horizon???? Only time will tell...

Some media pundits see in the growing proportion of non-white groups in the population a growing opposition to the Republican Party that will sooner or later make it virtually impossible for Republicans to win presidential elections or even to control either house of Congress. But is demography destiny?

Conventional wisdom in the Republican establishment is that what the GOP needs to do, in order to win black votes or Hispanic votes, is to craft policies specifically targeting these groups. In other words, Republicans need to become more like Democrats.
