"It wasn’t “loose gun laws” that sparked this tragedy. . . it had to do with how we treat celebrities." No, Derek, our violence problem is a demographic problem. We are now 1/3 Black & Hispanic and have the gangs and murders to prove it. We cannot change our demographics toward groups prone to violence and not have an increase in violence! The 2nd amendment was put in place so that Anglos could defend themselves from their government. It is not a right that could be given to groups w/o the requisite self-restraint not to go killing people over every imagined slight.

the Second exists not only for the SOLE reason of resetting a bad government,or for national defense, but also for individual self-defense.

Thomas Jefferson: "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined or determined to commit crimes. Such laws only make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assassins; they serve to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." (1764 Letter and speech from T. Jefferson quoting with approval an essay by Cesare Beccari)

John Adams: "Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion in private self defense." (A defense of the Constitution of the US)

Samuel Adams: "The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms." (Convention of the Commonwealth of Mass., 86-87, date still being sought)

Patrick Henry: "The people have a right to keep and bear arms." (Elliott, Debates at 185)

Alexander Hamilton: "The best we can help for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed" (The Federalist Papers at 184-8)

Richard Henry Lee: "To preserve liberty it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them..." (Richard Henry Lee writing in Letters from the Federal Farmer to the Republic, 1787-1788).

The right to keep and bear arms is the human right of self-defense and belongs to every member of the human species. The Second Amendment merely codifies that right; it does not grant it.

Let me get this straight. You are saying that Blacks and Hispanics are incapable of restraining their baser instincts.

You are a racist.

I serve with many Blacks and Hispanics with whom I have served many rotations in combat and I am proud to have them cover my back and they know that I have theirs. I guess "Whites Only" for gun ownership is your idea what America needs. If that young lady had been armed herself maybe both she and Belcher would still be alive.

I agree with you shipmate, but you must also consider that laws such as the Sullivan law in NY was written specifically to keep guns out of the hands of minorities and immigrants..The folks you and I served with are not the same kind of people who commit the crimes we see every day. The point as always is the liberals want OUR guns and use the stats run up by the bad guys to do it knowing full well that if they had their way, only the criminals would be armed..they are THAT stupid and pro gov't.

I'm saying you need to learn how to read. The demographic change of America from European to Black & Hispanic is a disaster. You're 'das racis' response is amusing.

Blacks and Mestizos have, on average lower levels of impulse control. This is manifest in their rates of violence, illegitimacy, etc.

How you got some idiotic idea that I advocated the 2nd amendment be limited by ancestry shows your lack of reading comprehension.

Blacks have always had enormously high crime rates, as have Hispanics, and will continue to. The issue is not how we treat celebrities, as Derek Hunter babbles, nor the presence of guns, as Bob Costas blathers. It's DNA.

blacks and Hispanics commit crimes of violence far out of proportion to their population.
it's not due to skin color, but cultural differences.

Bob Costas, an admitted ignoramus on the issue of the Second Amendment, chose halftime in a nationally broadcast football game to infect the world with his uneducated opinion on gun rights.

Speaking about Jovan Belcher, the NFL player who killed his girlfriend then committed suicide, Costas missed the point completely – as did the equally ignorant sports columnist Jason Whitlock. It wasn’t “loose gun laws” that sparked this tragedy. If anything, it had to do with how we treat celebrities.

Costas and Whitlock have the right to their opinions – and the Democrat Media Complex has the right to amplify...
