Socialism has failed miserably every time it has been tried either overtly (Soviet Union, China, Venezuela, ...) or incrementally (much of Europe, much of Africa). Yet starry-eyed ideologues like Obama and his crowd believe that they are so uniquely smart and altruistic that they can make socialism work if given enough time and money. Charismatic socialists have always been good at energizing intellectuals (seeking moral superiority) and other non-producers (seeking money and/or happiness) by fanning the anti-capitalist, class-warfare flames long past the time a reasonable person would have noticed that their experiment, like all the others, has cost them a generation of productivity.

Can there be political bubbles like financial bubbles?

Financial bubbles, inflated by hopes and dreams, burst when reality negates any possibility that those hopes and dreams will be realized. At that point, sky high stock or bond or real estate prices come crashing down to earth.

Can the same thing happen in politics? Can a skilled politician, who has become popular with soaring rhetoric and promises, deflate when it starts becoming clear that he is not going to deliver?

Of course, I am thinking about our president.
