More Settled Science: Wrong about Ice Melt in Greenland, Sea-Rise

Stuart95 Wrote: Nov 29, 2012 10:44 AM
We know that the net melting of ice is causing the sea level to rise, and the melting ice is caused by (global) warming. What we don't know is whether or not we did anything to cause or accelerate global warming, given that the current warming is indistinguishable from the earth's numerous major and minor warming and cooling cycles over the millenia. And even if we did somehow figure out that rising CO2 and/or methane causes or accelerates global warming, it may be impossible to do anything about it without setting back the world economy a century or two, likely killing hundreds of millions. I.e., the cure may be worse than the disease.

I am skeptical even about the detail that you start off by saying that we know...

I am quite sure that tha melting is involved — significantly. But for every earthquake of any significant magnitude, there is a compacting of the planet (witha a slight, but detectable increase in the planet's rotation's angular velocity.

That compaction is raising the sea levels some, too.

Gee since humans didn't cause the ice age, nor the subsequent melting... perhaps the earth climate has something going on that we don't quite understand yet... we only think we do...

Gee you guys, maybe the climate of the day has more to do with the 100 trillion Watt light bulb in the sky that is responsible for all life on the planet... maybe we shouldnt feed the snake-oil-salesmen all of our money to fight the environmental boogie man. maybe. maybe propping up psuedo science and correlation is dangerous and detrimental to actual science and determining cause-and-effect relationships. maybe

New research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences tends to now show that ice melt estimates previously calculated for Greenland have not significantly accelerated- as has been previously postulated- nor has the melt contributed in a meaningful way to the rise of sea levels.

Recently, much of the destruction on the east coast as a consequence of Super-Mega-Hurricane Sandy Gore was blamed on the rise in sea-levels, which have been blamed on…drum roll…global warming.

The newest revelation, amongst many in the last several years that have muffled the global warming chants of  “settled science, settled...
