1) Some scientists, who have labored in obscurity and penury for their entire careers, see a one-time chance for recognition, authority, and grant money. In this regard they are just like the rest of us. 2) Some scientists have an emotional need to have a mission, and the opportunity to blame global warming on mankind is just too attractive to pass up. In this regard, they are just like the rest of us. 3) The complexity of climate-change data is such that well-meaning scientists can legitimately conclude that man MIGHT be a contributing factor, but it is the charlatans who advocate diverting 1/6 of global GDP to fight the warming boogey man. 4) There are about 100 scientists worldwide qualified to pronounce on global warming.

A prominent global warming scientist, Peter Gleick, who was chairman of the ethics committee at the American Geophysical Union, admitted last year that he stole some documents- and he may have forged others- from the conservative think-tank the Heartland Institute. But that’s all in a day’s work for a work-a-day climate warrior. The important thing isn’t the quest for the truth in global climate research, but, as Charlie Sheen would say, winning. With winning comes cash.
