Meaningful Work

I rarely disagree with you, Thomas, but I fear you have gone a bit astray. Meaningful work is in the eye of the beholder; it is not about fun, easy, or bringing pleasure. Emptying bedpans (one of your examples of unmeaningful work) is meaningful to the medical personnnel whose mission in life is to serve all medical needs and, most of all, to the patient and their family members. There is no menial work in my vocabulary if it is a part of what makes life meaningful for that person. I would empty a bedpan for my ailing 89 year old mother and consider it a gift that I was able to do it and that she was still here to receive the service.
