When I asked Paul Ryan Wednesday night for his reaction to the news that the major television networks won’t carry a minute of the opening night of the GOP convention, he responded that he wasn’t surprised and that this is just the media terrain the GOP faces in the 2012 election cycle.

If the major networks provide the same coverage to the GOP convention as to the Democratic convention then there is nothing to complain about in terms of media bias.
I strongly disagree. While unequal GOP - DEM coverage of the 2012 conventions would evidence a clear bias, SO WOULD tailoring the overall (and equal) coverage in a given year to favor the (libbie, natch) favored candidate. More coverage if the libbie is full of hopey-changey $&·( and less coverage if the libbie ticket has to defend 4 years of failure.
The choose what to cover, when, and how means of boosting their libbie candidates has been a lapdop media specialty for decades.
