I will grant that rationing is unavoidable. I just prefer rationing on the basis of PAYMENT. This both encourages more supply and causes INDIVIDUALS to determine how much care is worth the cost to themselves. YOUR system of government means someone else decides for me. In addition, it DOES NOT reduce cost, and least not without decreasing QUALITY even more. Capitalism always increases VALUE for the price.

Whoever said it is my system? I don't support it, not at all, for many reasons. But it remains a fact that if you use the gov't to ration care, aggregate cost will be lower.

My point is that Sowell is not correct in asserting that under Obamacare, costs must necessarily go up. They will (they already have); but they do not have to. It is a simple fact that health care costs less in England, Canada, France, etc. It is also a simple fact that they reduce their costs by rationing care (the example of 6-month wait for a new knee).

I also prefer what we have had to Obamacare. But in the long run I fear that the penalty to be paid will not be primarily in cost, but in quality.
