Government should protect our rights (properly defined) and do little else. It is not up to the govt to decide what is good and to promote it. Free people can decide for themsleves what is good and live it. -steve

True libertarians dont believe in a "court house wedding". We believe in people reaching voluntary agreements of their own invention. My wife and I are married by virtue of our own announcement and private agreement. The govt is not involved.

"These confused libertarians are really social liberals with fiscally conservative leanings. They have failed to grasp the merit in preventing a judicial fiat that would have produced greater entanglement between the government and private relationships." Mr. Adams is the confused one, here. Libertarians believe that marriage should be a matter of private contract, with the parties setting their own terms. That's liberty. Allowing the government to define the marriage contract is legislative fiat. Why should govt (at any level) have the power to limit and control the terms of a voluntary relationship? Conservatives and liberals both want the govt to control the definition of marriage, they just quibble over the specific definition.
