Not even a majority (or supermajority) can vote to change reality. Wishing and/or voting won't make it so. Even a unanimous vote that the law of supply and demand should be repealed, for instance, would not make reality magically change.

It was a great achievement by the Founding Fathers to keep their RELIGION -- whatever it was -- OUT of the political picture so that they could establish a secular nation, based on the recognition of individual rights.

In the first place, rights come from nature, not God. In the second place, America was not founded as a "Christian nation," but rather as a free country. God is a fictional character. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are not fiction.

There is no proof that there is anything supernatural anywhere -- not even the slightest hint of a possibility. Given that fact, it would be absurd to call for "proof that there is no supernatural."

Mankind doesn't need God to survive. God is more like a slap in the face than a helping hand.

Don't forget that God is only a fictional character.

Not only is religion NOT "the only solid basis of good morals," religion is actually a hindrance to good morals -- since religion promotes faith over reason. Reason is the only solid basis for good morals -- IF you want to put morality on the job of the pursuit of happiness.

Have you ever tried to talk an avalanche into stopping? Doesn't reality have the "binding power" to indicate to you that you SHOULD get out of the way of the falling rocks?

People in the government do not need any "sense of God," they simply need to uphold the Constitution. And if they do have some "sense of God," they need to ignore it and simply uphold the Constitution. It is not the job of the government to promote (or attack) religion. It is the job of the government to protect our individual rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness.

Well, you certainly could say that reality is a "higher power" than the mind -- since wishing won't change reality. But in the specific terms of a human being's life, there is no higher cognitive and moral power than his own mind and rational judgment.
