Leadership 101 for the President

Steve921 Wrote: Aug 03, 2009 3:10 PM
The president was correct in his assertion that the police were wrong. Knowing all of the facts, or the motivation of the individuals, the caller, possible break-in and so on are not what he was commenting on. The facts are that a man was arrested and removed from his own property after his identity was verified by the arresting officer. The charges were dropped. An individual, after being identified, cannot be arrested for disorderly conduct in the privacy of their own home or property. Police officers are trained to diffuse potential volatile situations, not make them into bigger arguments.
I say Mr. Hunt, that this should be a teachable moment for you. Trying to admonish the President with a garbage argument only teaches...

Dumb and Dumber, By Choice

Be realistic. The states that I mentioned do vote heavily Republican. These same states have large minority populations according to you. You refer to minorities voting Democratic. This is the point I'm making. How and why do these states have Republican majorities at the state and federal level, but at the same time have the population you refer to? Doesn't make sense now does it. Being educated or not doesn't know skin color. Like I said earlier, we're responsible for our fellow man. Additionally, referring to minorities as uneducated or lacking in comparison to others is incorrect and not proper in any way. I was referring to population as a whole in the states mentioned. Next, you'll refer to as a percentage of the...

Gee LuLu. Lets look at the predominately Republican states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and the Carolinas. What do all of these states have in common? Would you believe the lowest test scores compared to the other states. Why is this occurring my conservative friend. Yes, my previous post was in jest. But the academic results for these states are far below the national average. Does politics play a part or not? It's fun for a liberal to point to these stats and ask questions. We can all give examples where our fellow citizens fall short on both sides of the spectrum. Why not come together to educate and provide for those of us that are less fortunate. You and me are part of 'We the...

I agree with you. Far too many of our fellow citizens are not educated. The example of 'American Idol' and then linking to voters is perfect. This show is watched by a majority of Republicans. Citizens with the lowest IQ's and lowest amount of education predominately vote Republican. Should there be some kind of requirement, or litmus test before Republicans receive their ballots?

Common Sense: Bankrupting the Taliban

Steve921 Wrote: Sep 04, 2009 1:19 PM
So lets go with the doubled and padded estimate of narcotic revenue of 150 million yearly for the Taliban. The Homeland Security budget, the Defense Department budget, CIA along with other intelligence agency budgets, supplemental expenditures for Iraq and Afghanistan (which are not included in the Defense Dept. budget) all combined, are well over 1 trillion yearly. And we still can't put the Taliban away because they are able to sell poppy for cash. Yeah, that make sense. I believe that the former Col. North has spent too much time in the coca and poppy fields himself.
I agree with the author that we should undo as many of these decisions made by the previous administration. This was implemented under the Bush administration, along with the Republican Governor of California. Mr. Shapiro writes that this occurred in December of 2008. President Obama was sworn in the third week of January 2009. Do the commentators here realize who the real racist is? If conservatives believe the authors premise, then President Bush acted with malice towards Hispanic farmers by implementing this policy. Please do not make up controversies concerning racism with President Obama when non exist. Mr. Shapiro you are a fraud, and are using the racist beliefs of many conservatives to provide an argument for them.

Has anyone here posting comments looked at the bio of the author? He edits college guide books for a living that compete with US News. His point is to denigrate his competition. These posters rant about liberal educations, but can't seem to find the motivation. Now who are the sheep?

Intellectual Rapists

The previous comments here seem to be awfully biased. Of course these women studies courses and the professor that is intellectually uncurious are wrong in this case. But does that make all women's studies courses and all professors wrong? Of course not. All of us can give examples of individuals or some group that has acted stupidly. Its called prejudice if we lump all similar people together. All of us have more in common than we like to think. Thats why as a liberal, I visit conservative web sites. How better to inform myself, than to find out what others think or say. Like President Obama says, "We can disagree, without being disagreeable."

'Reset' Translates as 'Capitulation'

Mr. Gaffney and similarly minded individuals were absolutely wrong about the imminent danger posed by Iraq and its involvement in 9/11. He's been wrong about almost every foreign policy decision he's agreed with. He poses as an expert on policy; while all along is really only representing Defense contractor interests. The major contributors to his Center for Security Policy are defense firms and lobbyists for defense firms. Or course his opinions don't represent their interests, he's doing this opinion piece out of the goodness of his heart. To my conservative friends, please look into the motives of individuals telling you to be afraid, and that they have the answers. His opinion is bought and paid for, and he's selling us...

Health Care Reform: A Better Plan

Since most of the postings here have to do with economics, and how these proposals will effect all of us; I'll posit a question. Can an example be given of legislation passed or put forward by the Republican Party that was harmful to large corporate interests or wealthy individuals? I truly believe that the Republican Party is nothing more than an advertising agency for the wealthy. Think about it....
