You're speaking of the moment. The rest of us are speaking of the future. Our best hope is that the Chinese people will rise and demand a democratic revolution. Because a democratic China means three critical things: 1) No war with the US 2) Along with democratic India, democracy really will have won history 3) The inherent imperialism and belligerence of the Islamic world will be contained until it too reforms and becomes democratic.

It's a huge country with a growing economy, an expanding military and ongoing disputes with several neighbors. Nationalist sentiment has grown. China is a rising power, and history indicates that rising powers often assert themselves in ways that lead to bloodshed.
