I believe John Stossel gets at a core incoherence of our 2013 Liberal dilemma. Liberals present demands for equality as both a moral means and ends. However, one can point out the flaws in their philosophical and cultural rhetoric and it will make less than a scintilla of difference to them. That is, Stossel’s descriptions of how other cultures deal with diversity will have absolutely no impact on university and political elites. Their demands are indeed religious. Their faith in their contrived moral vision for the country is fundamental and absolute. Indeed, Liberal principles are nothing more mere moral preferences. These preferences inform and embolden the liberal zealot. Trying to persuade a moral zealots like our President and his liberal acolytes in the media with a perspective like Stossel’s verges on futility. We shouldn’t stop trying, just consider the possible fact that modern liberalism is a religion and its Progressivist leaders are its zealots.
