There is a lot of misunderstanding about Federally designated Wilderness Areas. The Federal law establishing them forbids any mechanized machine from being used within their boundaries....period. And that's the rub; there is nothing in the law that provides for any emergency situation, which Tomestone obviously has with it's water supply. The Congress needs to amend the law, which the Federal Judge had no alternative but to uphold, to allow for emergency intrusion with mechanized equipment. The enviromentalists will fight hard to prevent it, because it was they who got the prohibition included in the law. Nevertheless, it's easy to see the kinds of travesties that could occur in Wilderness Areas without an emergency provision.

I bet Obama could produce and sign one of his Executive Orders and allow specific equipment to repair the water lines. But, I won't hold my breath.

In Arizona, it's no surprise that water can be hard to come by, but why is the federal government is cutting off the water supply to the famous Old West town of Tombstone?  

Nearly a year ago, Tombstone's water supply lines were heavily damaged in a flood after a heavy rain due to a massive wildfire leaving loose soil in the area. (Read this article to find out why we can thank the Forest Service for catastrophic wildfires)
