Let me say first that I'm conservative, not GOP... and I'm not much into social engineering... but I don't like the use of the name 'Redskins'. In the world of sports, I believe that aside from 'the Fighting Irish', there are no teams named for racial or ethnic groups... no Detroit 'Drunkin' Micks', no Houston 'Hollerin' Hispanics', or Chicago 'Charging Chinks'.... and let's not forget that 'Redskins' was a derogatory term no different from the 'N' word. Reflecting what's going in in DC, perhaps Snyder should change the name to "Washington Wallowing Whiteguys"? Kudos to Cindy (.. they're embarrassed by the 'Washington' part lol), and Samplin (change the logo to a potato!). And to the person who's trying to imply that this case is the same, or will lead to banning animal names for teams... do you not see the irony in your inane comparison? I just don't think teams should have their origins in insulting terms for a race of people who were given one of the biggest shaftings in world history, and attempt to portray it as 'honoring' their heritage.

Funny, Prager stretches so hard to find partially relevant scenarios, most of which are straw men, because there's nothing like this issue, and what he preaches here really doesn't apply. A gay person can buy whatever he or she wants, can go to the MVA and get a driver's license, can vote, go to war, pay taxes, perform any duties or jobs... "but hold on there - don't you even think about having a relationship serious enough for you to want to get MARRIED! No, no! It's ridiculous that you want the same legal agreement that heterosexual people can have! Just go away, have your little pretend lives, and your fake love... and leave marriage to us 'real people'! " It's cartoonish. Signed, a conservative who believes in the same rights for all.

Why do you believe the right to marry is 'unmerited' in the case of gays? Did you earn your 'right' to be married? And why is your disapproval 'rightful'? Just admit you're a bigot, and wear it proudly! Don't be ashamed of what or who you are! Marriage is just a way of saying 2 people are consenting to shared ownership of their things, and shared responsibility for what they do. Why the hangup about a word? Civil unions...? Marriage...? Are people who go to a J.P. not 'married'?
To prevent and handle fire in your home - buy and learn to use a fire extinguisher to protect your family & home! To keep someone alive after an accident or a heart attack - Learn 1st Aid & CPR! But for the love of society, absolutely do not buy and learn to use a firearm to protect your family & your home! That's just your... (pick one) A) macho/phallic obsession at work... B) your southern/cowboy/neanderthal violence mentality, or C) your inability to understand our new enlightened societal standards In other words, don' t be a victim... unless you're talking about the threat of violence to you or your family. In that case, just call 911, and realize you're going to be robbed/raped/killed well before the police arrive.
MyBest... my kids are the same age as yours. I sent them, and would recommend anyone who can muster the money, to send your kids to a private school. They are so much better off for it. Yes, you still see the topics of the progressives in the curriculum... but there's a broad mix of philosophical approaches. And moreover, they teach the kids to question and think, not just ingest and regurgitate. It's so worth it for their college & job possibilities... and just for the fact that it makes them better people.
Hey Bill, you want to start the in-faction fighting in a thread where there are a lot of very good comments and stories around a TOPIC. Who's the disruptor here? You go right to the attack because someone even uses the word 'libertarian', and you bring up words and topics that have no connection to this thread. This is why folks on the conservative side of things have no power... some of us are so desirous of ripping each other down instead of talking about ideas.

Now to the point... I'm conservative/libertarian, raised Catholic & democrat. (Glad to be rid of those ideologies) In my world, everyone has a right to believe what they feel is right. The Pope's words upset the LGBT folks the same way their words upset so many evangelicals - because it goes against your world-view, it MUST be wrong... and in fact, banned. Many posters here would like to see all gays either killed, re-programmed, or remain in hiding. Many gays believe Christians are hollow in their souls... because they hate gays. There's the rub. Anyone who knows gay people has come to terms with the fact that there's no 'choice' involved with their sexual orientation. No young person would choose to be gay. It's very difficult.

This thread is a great example of why Americans are so screwed up. Ken posts his pov, and it takes all of 3 posts to go completely, irrevocably off-topic. We have the ability to argue a point for 30 seconds, because so many are low-information people... we reiterate what we've heard somewhere that fits our temperament & becomes our world-view. When that one thought comes out, we have nothing left to say, so we revert to protecting our psyche and begin the name-calling, half-truths and made-up stuff. Instead of jumping into the fray here... try reading something (in addition to the bible) that may change your petty approaches to discussion. If you were all together in a room, most of what you say would never come out.
Hey Marie... maybe you and Frank and Cleombro-whatever should enter into a 3-way marriage, so each morning you can rise, stretch and spew your hatred in unison. Now that would be a disgusting, evil scene!
Frank, sounds if your personal depravity is hatred of people different from you, and the abomination is that someone apparently taught you to type.
