Free sales tax automation is already pre integrated into a majority of e-commerce checkout and shopping cart platforms. And if that isn't enough, credit card processors are now offering free sales tax automation. Free is pretty clear. So what exactly are the costly burdens everyone is referring to? It appears e-commerce retailing leaders have already eliminated antiquated and costly compliance burdens for merchants with modern technologies enabling sales tax automation, while many are still operating and thinking in the stone ages. I would hope the remaining e-commerce neanderthals wake up before modern e-commerce owner leaves them in the dust. Technology today easily automates sales tax processing offering modern e-commerce retailers greater efficiency and profitability.

Allan, Actually Allan your assumptions are based on 1992 methodology maintaining that today's modern marketplace still depends only on 1992 technologies. Until three years ago I was incredibly frustrated with the legacy tax procedures. However the year is 2012 (almost 2013), and technology available today has dramatically changed my life. Modern technology freely available on the Internet to any size merchant easily automates sales tax calculations, collections, and remittances for any jurisdiction in any state. Today it is actually much, much simpler for any business to process sales for any jurisdiction than deal with the complexities involved with shipping.
