The Times is just following progressive doctrine. It is far easier to blame an inanimate object for the actions of a lunatic than it is to actually address the real problem behind tragedies like Newtown, and that's mental illness. So people like this Rosenthal person write tripe like this to make themselves feel good for caring, but beyond that they could care less. As long as they feel good and can avoid doing anything of substance, they're good to go.

In Sunday's New York Times, Elisabeth Rosenthal claimed, as the title of her article put it, "More Guns = More Killing." She based this on evidence that would never be permitted in any other context at the Times: (1) anecdotal observations; and (2) bald assertions of an activist, blandly repeated with absolutely no independent fact-checking by the Times.
