Lent is a special times of alms giving, prayer, and fasting. Jesus fasted for 40 days. As Catholics, we join Jesus in this fast in remembrance of Him. WE try to live by His example. Do Protestants fast? Do you only go by the Thou shalts...?

So the choice of time shows what?

I was also away from the Church, for about 20yrs. Went back and realize that the truth is contained in the Church. Corrupt-sure parts are, always have been and will be until Christ comes to earth again.. The weeds with the grain, as it were. You are certainly welcome to your beliefs. I believe mine are right. Let's leave it there.

You are right soliton2. He did fast for 40 days. And it doesn't hurt to fast any time of the year as goes against the desires of the flesh. However, he did not fast in the spring contrary to what the pagan RCC teaches. I was once Catholic and now am so glad I am out of that corrupt institution of christitianity. The longer I'm away the more corrupt I begin to realize it is. Jesus fasted for 40 days after the Day of Atonement which adds to all the more why we should follow God's Holy days in Leviticus 23.

Dear Comrade Cabin Boy,

Cue the semi-educated liberal who tries to denigrate Christianity by tying it to paganism without any context at all. As usual, your comments make you sound like you have some sort of a thought disorder. Of course you do, but since you’re an unmedicated liberal, it’s to be expected.
