the effective tax rates paid to the fed have been basically flat lines since the 80's, we spend to much money period. To confound the problem taxes paid have increased over those same years but to states and localities. The tax code is geared towards harm at the 1 group that can least accept it and what makes us the America we are and that is the middle class small businessman. The big corps have money, time and people to find ways around and the poor really aren't affected. The goal is to drive the middle to either spectrum and most end up on the lower rung. So many less people are working that we now bring in only 15% of gdp in revenues but have jacked up spending to 25%
