I think it shows that we are shocked at the level of ignorance of some of our fellow Americans... I for one had never been on this forum and am shocked at the nature of some of these comments. Who complains that their kids can't have high-fructose corn syrup at school in their food anymore?? Lol.. this issue is not even a blip on Obama's radar. It doesn't even reflect on him. The school lunch program pre-dates him anyway. Doubtful anyone is going to vote for Romney because the USDA took hormones and antibotics, and deep-fried foods out of their kid's school lunch program on Obama's watch. If you think that someone would, you are delusional.

Nullify, sure you can keep your money but then whose going to pay your social security and your medicare? You're going to need it if you think healthy foods are bad since they don't taste good.

NWaters. The difference that you are missing is that participating in the school lunch program is an option. No one is forced to eat the school lunch. If you outlaw abortion, then no one can have one. You see the difference. If your school takes money from the govt to have a school lunch program then they have to follow health standards. If you don't like it, get your PTA together and tell the school to stop taking the govt money for the lunch program. Simple.

If anyone has participating in their gov't school lunch program, you are receiving welfare. Paying your $1.50 against the $5 a day it costs for these meals is nothing. The gov't still forks out the balance to feed your child. Anyone complaining because the gov't school lunch program has cut out high-fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and flavors, trans fats and deep-frying is an idiot. And anyone mad that their kids's are meats and milk are hormone- and antibiotic-free, and many of its ingredients are organic and locally sourced needs their heads examined.

Well seems as though people full of hate have been popping up at an all time high complaining about the most petty things. Only a total wacko or someone blinded by hate would take issue about a gov't lunch program that they use and has been around since the forties. No one is forcing your kids to eat the gov't lunch. Newsflash if you pay a dollar a $1.50 a day for your childs lunch you are receiving welfare. That meal these kids in Wisconsin throw away costs more and it's being paid for by the govt.

Nullify, The National School Lunch Act, enacted in 1946, provides funding to schools for food programs. It isn't required and schools don't have to take the money. But if they do, there are guidelines to what can be served. What's wrong with that? And no, Nullify clearly you don't have kids in school. There are no "lunch bucket police". The only thing they aren't allowed to bring to school are Lunchables (which no one should be eating), Candy (which should not be at school) and Peanut Butter because some kids have severe nut allergies and even being around or coming into contact with it will cause them to have breathing problems. (And the peanut butter is a class by class thing if someone has the allergy)
