I am from Minnesota. The former governor is a very nice guy and he did a good job for Minnesota. However, he is incredibly boring and on the same evangelical playing field as Rick Santorum. Mr. Pawlenty wouldn't likely carry his home state (I hate to say it but this perhaps says more about the people of MN rather than Mr. Pawlenty, but still). We wouldn't consider Santorum for VP (notwithstanding he hasn't ever been a governor and couldn't carry his own state). Pawlenty simply isn't the guy for the VP spot, no way.

With Mitt Romney all but universally acknowledged as the GOP certain nominee, attention has quickly and rightly turned to speculation about the former Massachusetts governor’s running mate.

I say “rightly” because not only will the choice greatly impact the election result, it could also profoundly shape American history if that choice were to become the president on short notice.
