Katie is out to lunch on this one. I spent over 30 years in the Armed Forces of the US, and never did we allow armed soldiers who were not participating in weapons firing training to walk around carrying concealed or unconcealed weapons. To show what a stupid idea this is, the shooter in this case would have been one of those allowed to legally carry on post. Obviously Katie knows nothing about the Armed Forces. There are probably hundreds if not 1,000s of troops at Ft Hood who suffer from PTSD, some of whom have never been diagnosed with the condition, so they too would be permitted to be armed. This is always the knee jerk reaction to any use of a gun, why let's have more guns. Not one shred of real evidence exists that more guns equal greater safety.
Thanks Jim for letting us see that you know nothing, nada, about National Security or the National Command Authority. But then why should anyone listen to you. If you want to know if the President has backbone just seek out the unsolicited comments by Admiral McRaven, who Commanded all of our Special Opns Forces and worked closely with the President. I'm taking his opinion over your factless opinion. I'm not surprised that you think walking with a swagger and having a big mouth equates with a backbone.
That's bull Manny41, why do you have to lie? Oh I know because you don't like the guy in the White House, no matter what. The newspaper and the nightly news publish the death count every day, with summaries on the weekend. I guess you are in that school of thought that says if you lie enough it becomes true. For example today the papers and the nightly news noted that for the 1st time I believe in 8 yrs no American died in Afghanistant. Another story pointed out that the Taliban, despite its recent attacks, is weaker than it has ever been.
Dr_Zinj well which President were you impressed by? It couldn't have been either of the Bush Presidents? Obama is still sortingout the mess left by both Bushes who screwed veterans over PTSD and Gulf War Syndrome. Plus Bush made the biggest strategic mistake in our modern history invading Iraq. Even a trained ape would have done a better job than the totally ineffectual Bush, Cheney n Rumsfeld idiocracy. They were stupid enough to think they could remake the Middle East in our image. In the end all they did was elevate Iran.
Really Dyadd, VA hospitals and treatment are much better than under Bush. I guess you forgot the scandalous flithy conditions returning wounded warriors faced at Walter Reed Military Hospital in 2007. But why would I think that you are the least bit concerned about facts. Bush's crony who was placed in charge of the VA was forced to resign for his part in a disgraceful performance.

Well one has to wonder what veterans are comparing, because there is no comparison between President Bush and Obama's handling veterans affairs. Bush was the worse modern Presidet for veterans. In the midst of his wars Bush actually tried to decrease the VA's budget and health care programs. Obama on the other hand is the 1st President to fully fund the VA. He also worked with Congress to put the VA on a 2 instead of a 1 year budget cycle. Again I wonder how veterans reached their conclusions in face of the striking differences in actions?

I so tire of your idiotic ignorant comments. This kind of garbage comment is the reason that few people take any comment of yours with any degree of seriousness. Some Christian you are. Just once I would luv to read a comment that shows you make an ounce of effort to be Christ like, which every Christian is supposed to be.

Are you so fearful that without the coercion of government that recruits would pass on the Bible? Is that your problem? You do realize that a combination of government and religion is toxic to both. The reason the US has the greatest amount of religious freedom is precisely because government is not involved. Thomas Jefferson was right, there should be a Wall between them. Faith is the power wielded by religion. Coercion (force) is the principal weapon of government. Why do Christians need both. Can't you convince people on faith alone?

Tradition? The Navy once had the tradition of making guilty sailors of certain offenses to walk the plank, they also gave a ration of Rum, tradition was a segregated Armed Forces. So tradition does not make a practice right. I'm still waiting for an answer to those whose faith is so weak until they want government to act if it is certifying and promoting Christianity to recruits?

The free exercise of religion in the 1st Amendment applies to all religions, not just Christians.
