Since the oil flowing through the XL Pipeline will be owned by the likes of ExxonMobil, BP, The Chinese National Oil Company, and others why are you calling it American energy? We won't own a drop of that oil.

Go right ahead and ignore the fact that we still do not know how to clean up spills of the dirtiest oil on the planet. Further XL has nothing to do with energy independence. We the U.S. will not own one drop of oil running through that pipeline. The extra-national oil corps that will own the oil have no obligations to U.S. energy markets. A barrel of oil is sold on the international market to the highest bidder. What the XL seeks is access to Gulf Coast ports to permit export of oil that thus far cannot be easily exported.
