The Lesson of Dunkirk

Exactly. Well said.
Another article blaming conservatives for not playing nice. But conservatives are growing increasingly and understandably impatient with being disrespected by establishmentarians in their own party. Tell you what. Let's unite behind one premise, one major goal. Turn every political conversation toward the same subject. Concentrate all political capitol and education efforts toward getting the public behind the idea. Keep after it year after year after year after year. Balanced budget amendment. Once it is passed, then all these other fights will be easier and winnable. Every politician will have to become a small government advocate. It will be harder to build liberal coalitions to start anything new, because liberal constituencies will have to fight each other for limited resources. Seriously. Unite behind the goal of passing a balanced budget amendment. Get it passed. Then sit back and watch the progressives self destruct. The alternative is to continue to whine (as does this column) about how small government conservatives are supposedly responsible for allowing progressives to win.
Agreed. I looked again. Only empty blame game rhetoric. No concrete suggestions for "what to do". As usual.

Cruz Control? Part II

I respectfully disagree that "his threatened filibuster this year forced several Republican Senators to jeopardize their own reelection prospects by voting to impose cloture,". The only thing that forced that vote was their own self-serving desires as well as their willingness to violates Reagan's 11th commandment - Never attack a fellow Republican. Senator Cruz was attacking Obama, not other Republicans. Shame on those Republicans who were so weak that they felt "forced" to vote for cloture. Hey, if nothing else, they could have used the debt ceiling "crisis" to insist on a up or down vote on a balanced budget amendment.

This column broke my heart. I consider Dr. Sowell completely brilliant. I teach high school economics (private Christian school of course) using his book. As far back as grad school, (Ohio State '93) I listed him as my favorite author and that has not changed. When I saw the title of the column, I thought Dr. Sowell had come up with the winning campaign slogan for 2016, "Put This Country on Cruz Control!" What Dr. Sowell leaves out of this analysis however, in my humble but accurate opinion, is the other mistake the world made in dealing with Nazis, appeasement. Ted Cruz refuses to deal in appeasement and we who believe that this fight needs to be fought love him for it.

Agreed. Every sentence. Especially the last one. Which grieves me greatly.
