I have not previously read anything by this author, but was intrigued by his premise. He might have had a better chance at convincing me that the premise was correct if he had taken the effort to use correct grammar (or at least hire an editor). Surely the author did not mean to say we are short-sided. At 6'5" tall, I may be short sighted, but I am definitely not short-sided. Also, maybe Jimmy Carter would have had a more successful presidency if he had positioned himself as the antidote to Nixonian corruption instead of the anecdote. In fact, I was so distracted by the mangled syntax (as well as several puntuation errors) that I almost missed how dismissive of social conservatives this column is. The real reason the Dems keep...

I have not logged in to post comments in months, but feel compelled to say 3 things here:

1. As I have repeated ad nauseum to any of the few who listen to me - there is no such thing as a moderate Democrat. That is why it is so annoying that Mary Landreau is my senator.

2. Major kudos to Doc W (first post) for such a succinct and insightful analysis of how we got here and who is responsible (we are):
