As a bankruptcy lawyer I can confirm that what you say is absolutely true. These kids with zero income and, most likely, student loan debt should not be extended credit via credit cards! That said, anyone bright enough to get into college should be bright enough to grasp that if you charge, say, $200 per month on a card while paying the monthly minimum payment of, say, $20, after several months the balance is going to be. . . . Well, you do the math! And that's not even gettining into the interest charges. I have to say that I'm glad the credit card companies weren't offering cards to college kids when I was in school (graduated 1981).
