Here in Utah, public schools and universities are required by law to allow permit-holders to carry firearms on campus, and are prohibited from having any sort of policy that penalizes permit-holders for carrying. The University of Utah had a policy prohibiting legally-carried firearms on campus, but this policy was declared illegal by the Utah State Supreme Court several years back. So the "U" was forced, kicking and screaming, to allow legal self-defense weapons on campus. Ditto for all other public universities and public K-12 schools in the Beehive State. No problems have ensued. Perhaps not coincidentally, there have been no shooting sprees at Utah's public educational institutions. Shortly after the U began allowing concealed carry, a young Muslim immigrant armed with a shotgun, a pistol, and a backpack full of ammo went on a shooting spree at the Trolley Square Mall a few blocks from the U campus. The mall has a clearly posted policy prohibiting all weapons. The U allows legally carried weapons. Perhaps this is why he chose the mall as his murder venue instead of the nearby campus. He was finally stopped by a mall patron who had chosen to violate the mall's policy by carrying a concealed revolver.
